Idea Makers and Problem Solvers
We had several seventh and eighth grade students participate in the Mad, Bad, and Dangerous Girls Edition: 24 Hour Generator at GPS on March 15th and 16th. Teams were comprised of students from local public and private middle schools. During the event, the girls were presented with a problem experienced by a local business and, along with the help of a mentor, had the task of collaborating with their peers to solve this problem. The event was a 24 hour lock-in where the girls developed and tested solutions before making a final pitch to a panel of judges for a cash prize. CGLA boasted girls on the 1st and 2nd place teams. In addition, students heard from local Female Entrepreneurs during dinner that night. Mrs. Archambault, CGLA mentor and chaperone, said: “My favorite part of the event was the speech given by local female entrepreneur, Ella Livingston. In her speech, she referred to the quote ‘If your dreams don’t scare you, you aren’t dreaming big enough’ multiple times, and that phrase really struck a chord with me.” All in all, the girls had a great time helping local businesses solve problems, while enjoying great food!
