Recognition as a 2019 Reward School
Education Commissioner Penny Schwinn announced that Chattanooga Girls Leadership Academy (CGLA) earned recognition as a 2019 Reward School and has achieved Level 5 outcomes, for two consecutive years, in the Tennessee Value-Add Assessment System (TVAAS). Based on data gathered during the 2018-2019 school year, this multi-dimensional commendation distinguishes CGLA as a school that excelled in both academic proficiency and academic growth.CGLA will host a celebration to salute this notable achievement on Friday, August 23, 2:30 pm in Hutton Gymnasium. The public is invited to attend.Tennessee Department of Education assesses academic proficiency and academic growth to understand how a school is serving its students. Academic proficiency determines whether or not a student has mastered the skills and knowledge deemed essential to a particular subject. Academic growth is a benchmark known as the Tennessee Value-Add Assessment System (TVAAS) that evaluates whether or not a student is progressing toward proficiency. Specifically, academic growth is a series of assessments to gauge whether or not a student is actually learning and moving forward.Dr. Elaine Swafford, chief executive officer, acknowledges the hard work and relentless commitment of the faculty and students. “Our teachers are exemplary and fully dedicated to the school’s mission,” saidSwafford. “They believe every student is capable of learning, and as evidenced by these achievements, they are advancing students toward success.”“Education is a complex endeavor requiring us to be firmly focused on achievement yet nimble so that we accelerate learning for all students,” said Swafford. “If proficiency is the destination, then growth is the journey.”Here's to a great year!!!
